SciFi and Fantasy Art: Make it go faster ! (2003)It started as a trotting pony. I'd intended to put one of my D&D characters on it, but instead I stuck two youngsters, an elfin girl and a half-elfin boy, on its back. Bending to the will of my friend, after refusing to give the creature a horn, or put flowers in the elf's hair, I gave her a bow and arrow (and stuck flowers in the pony's tail). The boy is frantically trying to coax the pony to pick up the pace while the girl takes aim at an invisible foe. It started as a doodle and ended up a finished vignette and eventually I plan to write a story for it. Pencil and coloured pencils.
| | | | | Date | Name | Comment | | | 29 May 2003 | Carrie | Maya! I like it a lot! I clicked on it and liked it before even fully realizing it was the piece from DnD. I really like the finished product. Even without the horn Maya R. Hirschman replies: "Thanks, ladypants ! I'm glad you like - I like it a lot too. I like how the texture of the paper comes through the coloured pencil." | |
| 2 Jun 2003 | Linda Gock | What fabulous coloured pencil! I love the horse the most, cos I can't draw horses if my life depended on it. Nice and dynamic too. Maya R. Hirschman replies: "Woo, thanks Linda ! I think spending most of my life with horses helped a lot. " | |
| 18 Jun 2003 | Dyskord | The little boy looks frightened to death from whatever is chasing them. At least they have a strong horse that looks like it is able to get away quickly if the girl misses. I've always wanted a horse and your drawing will keep me wanting one. Maya R. Hirschman replies: "Now if they could just get the animal to go faster... Horses rock, but they're kind of dopey, sometimes." | |
| 2 Aug 2003 | Elvenlord Bob | Sigh, too true ... the dopey bit, that is. I'm laid up right now becuase my dopey horse decided that the evil plastic bag on the road was going to bite him & so he dumped me . . . but oh well. i love your composition on this peice, it looks as if they are running out of a portal or world gate of some kind, especially the way the trees are bending wuth the circle. Neat! Maya R. Hirschman replies: "Oh yes, the evil plastic bag. Geese. Shadows. Ditches. Cattle, far away in a field. The terrors in a horse's life. And yet, we continue to love them.
Thanks for the lovely comment. I love the sort that are full of personal anecdotes. *laugh* And I'm glad you like the effect of the vignette. "
| 6 Aug 2003 | Eline 'Ellende' Spek | A real action picture! Like it Coloured pencils are hard but you got them really nice here Maya R. Hirschman replies: "I don't find them hard, myself, but I have a LOT of them, which helps. " | |
| 2 Sep 2003 | Jordan Lewerissa | Wow - great piece. Lovely design element with the circular border. Nice soft pencil technique. Maya R. Hirschman replies: "Thank you very much, Jordan." | |
| 2 Dec 2003 | Shelley Paterson | Wow, its so pretty! I love the colours used and your pencil crayon work looks very nice. I love this piece, and the guys expression. Hehe, Awesome. ^_^ Maya R. Hirschman replies: "Thank you for stopping in and commenting ! I hadn't done anything with pencil crayons in a while. " | |
| 14 Apr 2004 | Suzanne 'Lady Valtaya' Kraft | ooooooooo how cute!!! Huggles the pony. I would tell the kids to remember to bring their riding tack the next time they need to make a quick get away. lol very pretty I'd like to see the story that goes with it. Maya R. Hirschman replies: "*laugh* I suspect there was no time for tacking-up. I'm glad you like it." | |
| 5 Jul 2004 | Lene Haug Myhre | beautiful!! I have always found it very difficult to draw 1 person riding in a horse, but you have drawn 2 people riding in a horse!! Nice work, keep it up. Maya R. Hirschman replies: "I find that once you get the hang of one person, two isn't that much of a leap. It's kind of like that in real life, too, I guess." | |
